They say I’m supposed to be the perfect counterpoint between Heaven and Hell.
They say I have as much of my father’s goodness in me, as I have mother’s wickedness.
They say I’m supposed to be the one who makes everything right. That it’s my job to spread equality on earth, and to keep the thorny throne sacred, so that when the time comes for my daughter to ascend it, the kingdom that she’s destined to govern over will be the most majestic kingdom the earth has ever known. They say it’s my job to take the high roads, and to make the sacrifices, and to lead by example, to survive everything they subject me to, and to stomp out evil everywhere I find it, until all that’s left of it are ashes…
But what about what I want, hmm?
And what if I’m sick of being the victim who was tempted out of the Garden of Eden… and am ready to be the serpent that does the tempting instead?
Because I’m starting to suspect that if I don’t… then all I’ll ever know, is purgatory.
